Geographic location holds no bounds for Diana Jenner

Living in England, Canadian born and USA educated has opened many doors and travel opportunities throughout my life. Now with social media I can connect with people world-wide on a daily basis.

Photo taken at The Hurlingham Club.

Since winning Beauty Therapist of the Year, a national accolade awarded by BABTAC (British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology) I have connected with other professionals in the beauty industry in Japan, South Africa, United States, Dubai, Canada and Australia. It's fantastic to gain inspiration and share ideas with such a large group of people especially having visited their countries, which makes it easier to relate to the different cultures.

Beauty is one of the fastest growing industries. The United Kingdom market was worth £16.6 billion in 2014. Raconteur states, “Spending on beauty and skincare in the UK is expected to reach new highs in 2015”, and it did! In 2015 the beauty market reached £17 billion, 3% growth in three years doesn't seem like a lot, but we're talking billions and that is a lot of spending!

I love the beauty industry, it's about making others feel better about themselves. By sharing knowledge about the industry and educating people it enables them to be a better version of themselves.

Travel Tuesday: Part 5 Desert Island Beauty & Wellness- Suppliment

A popular radio program in the UK called Desert Island Discs asks a variety of listeners what they would take to a Desert Island. If they were only allowed eight records what would they pack?

A friend asked me what my beauty version would be. This is the fifth entry of the Beauty & Wellness series about what I would take with me if I was only allowed one item.

I started taking a daily collagen supplement after reading a blog about how it helps your skin. A collagen supplement didn't make sense to me at first because your skin produces collagen not the body, but I thought I would try it anyway... Anything to slow the ageing process right?!

I started to research and read a bit more about the benefits on the skin by ingesting collagen. This incert from Amino-collagen summarises the benefits that studies have proven.

"As the skin undergoes natural chronological aging, and is attacked through photoaging, the natural skin structure begins to deteriorate. Fortunately, lost body collagen stores can be effectively replaced through the right supplements. Supplemental collagen can increase strength around high movement areas of the skin where wrinkles form. Fortifying the skin's structure by eating collagen also results in the strengthening of pore walls, slowing down sagging skin and enlarged pores. The result is more youthful looking skin during aging."

This whole article explains the benefits of a collagen supplement on the body. http://amino-collagen.com/collagen-benefits-side-effects.html Amino-collagen states, 'taking collagen can decrease wrinkles by 13%' and other fun facts about this anti-ageing supplement.

So the vitamin or supplement I would take to a desert island would be collagen capsules to help combat the signs of ageing caused by the sun.

Makeup Monday- weekend getaway

We've just had a lovely weekend down in Cornwall visiting family friends in town from New Zealand. Juggling a successful business, young family and a busy household it didn't give me much time to pack.

I always pack by colour so all my accessories match and I can pack minimal makeup. The MAC travel sets are brilliant for space saving essentials.
I replace the duo brush with a Technakohl eyeliner, pack a concealer and splash proof mascara so that my makeup will be weather proof- rain or shine! The travel packs have two blushers & lipsticks along with enough eyeshadow choice to create several looks day and night.

Makeup Monday- minimise your holiday makeup

Whether you're going away for a weekend or a week, packing for a holiday can be tricky and every little bit adds up quite quickly for heavy luggage!

Here's a quick packing guide for holiday makeup:
From left to right:
1. Blush- Arbonne blush in Blossom because it works as a blush or bronzer.
2. Tinted moisturiser- Dermalogica Ultra Sensitive Tint SPF 30- it has a high broad  factor sun protection and gives skin a healthy glow.
3. Eyelash Curler- Tweezerman makes a good curler & it comes with extra inserts.
4. Makeup Brushes- Victoria's Secret created this great travel pack with blusher brush, two eyeshadow brushes for contouring and an eyeliner brush.
5. Liquid Liner- MAC liners work in any climate and add definition and enhance the eye for a day or evening look.
6. Mascara- MAC prep + prime lash and mascara can be used to create a natural or glamourous look.
7. Eyebrows- Sleek make a great eyebrow travel kit that contains a gel, powder, two mini brushes & tweezer. This combination keeps brows tidy and adds definition for all occasions.
8. Multipurpose- MAC lustre drops can be used to boost foundation, add a glow to cheeks & eyes, or brighten dark circles. This multipurpose product is a great travel companion.

I always have lippy in my bag, so haven't added this to the packing list but this picture shows a look that can take you from day to night on holiday with 10 simple items. I always keep a light 'daytime' colour and darker 'evening' lipstick in my bag for a quick day to evening change.

Travel Tuesday- holiday must haves!

Tis the season for holidays, whether it's a quick weekend away or a two or three week holiday. Having been cabin crew for years and flying around the world I've learned to be a minimalist packer with items that are multi-functional. Skincare isn't any different from that!

My holiday 5 must haves are: Dermalogica's Power Rich, Solar Defense Booster, Daily Resurfacer, Ultracalming Cleanser and Antioxidant   Hydramist- this combination is light weight and keeps my skin healthy!

Here's an itemised run down of why I use these as my getaway essentials.

Power Rich- this product comes in 8ml tubes which are easy to pack and they are an excellent all rounder. I use this all over my face, eye area, neck & decollate to help smooth away fine lines & maintain skin moisture. This product is great morning & night and you only need the size of a 5p so a tube lasts a whole week!

Solar Defense Booster- this is a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF 50. I use it for face and body (mixing it with my body moisturiser to make it go further). It has MAP (magnesium ascorbyl phosphate) and Tocopherol (vitamin E) to help control sun damage and keep my skin soft.

Daily Resurfacer- these are packaged as 36 individual doses which are like little exfoliating finger puppets. They are so gentle you can use them around the eye area, but they hydrate, brighten & smooth the skin.

Ultracalming Cleanser- this is a very gentle cleanser that can be used on wet or dry skin, removes eye makeup, and can be tissued off or removed with warm water. If you've been in the sun all day you can also use it as a masque to calm any redness or heat from over exposure.

Antioxidant Hydramist- this is a toner that can be used traditionally after cleansing to ensure even moisturiser distribution. It also is a refreshing spray after being in the sun, a hydrating spritiz throughout the day, or can be used to help set makeup with its flash-firming properties.

The UltraCalming Cleanser and Antioxidant Hydramist both come in travel sizes that will last a month. The Solar Defense booster is 50ml, so a great size for travelling and if used on its own as a day moisturiser it lasts 3 months. The Power Rich and Daily Resurfacer I pack as many as needed for the holiday duration. Happy Travels!
