The seasons have definitely started to change and summer tans are fading after the Indian summer sun has turned to rain. 

To keep that glowing skin follow these three easy steps to having a natural looking tan through the winter. 

1. Exfoliate- exfoliating away the dead skin cells will give your skin a healthy appearance and texture because fresh skin cells are on view and the dead scaly ones have been washed away. There are several ways of doing this, but the easiest way is to use a gentle exfoliating glove or cloth in the shower daily. Swap your loofah for Dermalogica's Exfoliating Body Cloth or He Shi's exfoliating body glove and wash with a ph-balanced shower gel like Dermalogica's Conditioning Bodywash. 

2. Moisturise- moisturising after each shower is important to lock in moisture and keep skin soft and supple. There's a 3 minute rule that is the prime time after bathing to apply body cream for the best hydrating and moisturising benefits. During the autumnal and winter months there are lots of daily elements that zap moisture from your skin- cold weather, car heaters, and central heating everywhere you go. The first step before any tan application should be exfoliation. This helps to ensure an even tan application because the dry and dead skin cells are sloughed off leaving skin soft and fresh. There are many types of body exfoliants on the market- scrubs, loaffahs, exfoliating gloves, etc. When shopping for a body exfoliant to use prior to tanning make sure it doesn't leave an oily residue on the skin as this will have an adverse affect with the tanning product. 

HeShi Exfoliating Bodywash is a gentle foaming scrub that can be used in the shower. The fruit based Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) and micro-dermabrasion crystals smooth away dead skin cells.

Tan Tuesday- it's as easy as 1-2-3!

Tan is really as easy as 1-2-3! HeShi have even marked the bottle with the steps, so it's fool proof! 

Step 1- exfoliate! This is so important to ensure your skin evenly absorbs the tan giving you a natural glow. This is a foaming exfoliating body wash, super easy to do in the shower- lather, scrub and rinse! 

Step 2- tan! Tanning products come in three easy forms- liquid, mousse and gel (my favourite!) I have used all three and prefer the feeling of gel on my skin...what's your preference? Apply the tan using a tanning mitt to prevent staining your hands, just apply gel to your mitt and thoroughly rub into your body working on one area at a time so you get an even tan. 

Step 3- moisturise! Again this is an essential step in creating the perfect tan. Once tan is applied rub moisturiser into the dry areas- elbows, knees, feet and hands. If you have any areas of the body that overlap such as large breasts rub lotion on the areas that touch to prevent over developing the tan ie underneath your breasts. 

Aftercare- a sunless tan should last 5-7 days if you follow the aftercare. Here are 6 Do's and Don'ts to follow:
